Mike, the boys, and I headed down for our annual trip to Destin. We didn't go last year because Anderson was so little, so we were way overdue and very excited for this trip! We left late Friday night and drove all night while the boys slept-- worked out GREAT! When we arrived to Destin it was pouring down rain...I started to cry and said we should just go home--pretty sure that was the sleep deprivation. It ended up raining all day Saturday. There is not much to do indoors in Destin except to go play on the boats and see the "stuffed" animals at Bass Pro. Luckily the boys thought it was great.
Sunday we woke up to sunshine-- YEAH!! There were a few short showers each day, but we were thankful to have pretty good weather. We literally went to the beach all day, every day. I have about 500 beach pictures, but I'll just post a few ;-)
Both the boys loved the sand and water...Hallelujah!! We laughed that Anderson was a beach whale because he loved laying on the edge of the water and letting the waves crash into him. Connor kept wanting to go "deeper by the sharks". Between wave crashing, sand playing, snack eating, and ray catching...our days went too fast!
Connor's favorite thing on the beach was searching for seashells. He picked up everyone he saw. Needless to say, he has quite the collection!
We stayed at a new condo this year and it was really nice. I think we have found our new favorite spot. It was a little off the main strip which was nice and it was right next to a State Park so the beach was less crowded than the other place we stayed at. Here is a picture of the outside of our condo and some views of the beach.
Mike grilled fresh seafood at the condo a couple nights and we went out to eat the rest of the time. We tried all new restaurants this year and found a couple new ones that may become regulars when we go down there. Our favorite was an Irish Pub called McGuires. They brew their own beer and rootbeer and smoke all their meat...Yummy! The coolest part was that everyone who visits leaves a 1 dollar bill with their name or a message and hangs it up. They estimate there are over $50,000 bills hanging. It was pretty cool and of course we had to leave our mark as well. :-) On Tuesday after dinner we went to the Baytown Wharf. They have a playground and several cute shops. On Thursday we went down to the Harbor Walk and watched the boats come in. Connor went for a train ride and we all got some yummy ice-cream! So-much-fun!
This next picture just cracks me up. One day we were inside resting and Mike fell asleep on the couch. I heard the channels change and looked up to see that Anderson took the remote from Mike. Too funny!!
And of course we had to get some family pictures on the beach. One day I am going to be able to get everyone to look at the camera and smile at the same time--I just know it! But in the meantime...
We had so much fun together just the 4 of us. It is always nice to get away and never fun to come back :-( We said our goodbyes to the beach and gave a little wave, but that doesn't mean we were happy about leaving. Until next summer...
